FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of soil does PWML accept?

We will only accept solid, debris-free, non-hazardous petroleum hydrocarbon (PHC) impacted soil at Prairie Waste Management Limited (PWML) facilities.

Examples of treatable PHC solid waste accepted by PWML include:

  • - Gasoline or Diesel impacted soils
  • - Hydraulic oil impacted soils

PWML accepts impacted soil delivery at our facilities by several methods including:

  • - Bulk (ie. Tandem truck, 5 and 6 axle semi-trailer and side dump trailer)
  • - Lugger bins
  • - Tote bags

What kind of soil is not accepted?

PWML does not authorize acceptance of any waste other than PHC impacted soil. We are NOT a landfill and do not accept garbage. Please remove tarps, plastic, hoses, pipes, wooden debris, etc. from soil prior to delivery.

The following wastes are prohibited for disposal at PWML facilities:

  • - Medical (including biomedical) wastes
  • - Radioactive wastes
  • - Explosives
  • - Bulk liquids
  • - Municipal waste, including liquid domestic sewage
  • - Putrescible waste (ie. Animal carcasses)
  • - Oil field waste containing distillate-based invert mud systems with oxygen scavengers
  • - Automobiles and other large metal objects
  • - Free liquids as determined by the US EPA Method 9095 (Paint Filter Liquids Test)
  • - Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs) soils
  • - Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) soils
  • - Chlorinated solvents
  • - Heavy metals

If material other than PHC impacted soil (ie. garbage, plastic, metal, rubber gloves, asphalt, concrete, rock and or trees) is delivered to PWML, or, if soil is allowed to accumulate on any facility access roads and/ or driveways, the proponentshall incur additional surcharges over and above the disposal rates originally quoted.

What happens if my soil contains rock, asphalt, concrete or other forms of debris?

PWML understands that concrete and asphalt concrete are unavoidable for some jobs. We are able to remove small amounts of concrete and asphalt concrete from soil at our facility. If only a reasonable amount of debris is present, there may not be a charge; however, you may incur a fee for PWML removal of large quantities of debris. Soils with significant amounts of brick, rock, concrete, plastic, steel, wood or debris will not be accepted and you may be required to remove such delivered soil from our facility at your own cost.

What happens when I arrive at the disposal facility?

When you arrive onsite you will be greeted and directed by PWML personnel to the appropriate area of the facility. Prior to unloading you will be required to fill out a PWML Landfarm docket form. A copy of the docket form can be viewed here. The Landfarm docket form contains three carbon copies. One copy is for the client, one for the trucking company, and one stays with PWML.

What are PWML’s hours of operation?

PWML facilities are open for soil delivery from 7am – 5pm, seven days a week. Extended hours can be arranged for large projects if required. Please Contact Us ahead of time to make arrangements.

Disposal Pricing

Pricing for disposal of soil at our facilities may vary based on the laboratory analysis results and contaminant concentrations, soil type and total volume of PHC impacted soils being delivered. Typical disposal costs range from $25 to $60 per tonne. Please Contact your PWML representative for disposal pricing. Disposal pricing will be confirmed via a PWML soil disposal contract prior to soil delivery.

Soil Tracking & Invoicing

PWML does not currently operate its own weight scale at our facilities. Therefore, deliveries will be invoiced based on third party provided Weight Tickets or Bill of Lading documents.

Deliveries without Weight tickets or Bill of Lading documents will default to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure – “Typical Load Limits on Highways”, 2011 Second edition document, where;

  • - Tandem Straight truck 3 axles = 12 tonne
  • - Tractor & Semi Trailer 5 axles = 24 tonne
  • - Tractor & Semi Trailer 6 axles = 30 tonne
  • - Belly Dump Trucks are not accepted
